Using a separate nic to PXE boot
HI
On a R420, it has onboard dual broadcom nic which isn't performing too well. We've added a Intel Quadport nic as shown here:
I went in to bios and disabled onboard nic. however i am unable to PXE boot off the new NIC it just shows no pxe device available.
if i go to lifecycle controller, I dont even have any options to specify a nic:
before disabling the onboard nic, we ran firmware updates to make sure everything is up to date so we cant blame this on outdated bios etc.
Can someone help me get this nic to work in lifecycle controller and most importantly use it to PXE boot.

PXE boot is enabled.. im not sure if the network card does support it, im guessing not as i dont see any options anywhere!
Do you know why in lifecycle controller it shows no nic to use to do firmware updates? does it only work with LOM ?

Does the NIC support PXE? Is PXE boot enabled? The onboard NIC's can be enabled or enabled with PXE/BIOS support. I'm guessing you would have such an option in the NIC's setup utility, but do you see the NIC in the BIOS Setup list for boot sequence? You'll need to put it at the top of the boot sequence, and on some systems, you need to also enable it in the boot sequence (will show a checkmark).

check screen shots in post 1. lifecycle controller shows NO nic available. it works when i enable onboard NIC, why does lifecycle controller not detect a nic that is not onboard?

Oh, yeah ... the iDRAC is tied to the onboard NIC, so you can't set up iDRAC access with an add-in card.
