VRTX Front LCD Display changes from Rack back to Tower Mode

Hello,

I have a VRTX and I noticed every time the system does it's weekly hardware check I have to set the display back to Rack Mode from Tower Mode. How can I get it to permanently stay in Rack mode. This is a weekly thing now. It is just an annoyance more then anything. I have checked the CMC for the display and it shows correctly once I change the status to either or. I am on CMC BIOS 3.30. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi,

I've not come across that there is an issue with LCD orientation settings on VRTX CMC. When it reverts back to tower mode orientation, did you do the changes to rack mode from the LCD or CMC? Have you tried doing the revert from either method that you have not used. Have you tried soft reseting the CMC by SSH into CMC and execute the command racadm racreset? What license do you have on CMC, express or enterprise? Was the VRTX originally a Rack configured or converted? What kind of weekly hardware check are you referring to?

Hello Joey. Thank you for your response. The VRTX does a weekly hardware check where the fans spin up really fast (Loud) and goes through a list of hardware checks then when it finishes the fans spin down and everything (hardware) goes back to a normal state and the fans spin back down. I have the VRTX set up to send me E-mails when there is a change in the hardware state and even though there is no action required by me I have noticed the Orientation changes from rack back to tower and I have no idea why it would lose that setting and yes I have set it both in the Console of the VRTX as well as the CMC itself. It will stay in Rack mode until the check starts up again. I have to manually go back in to change it to Rack again I am on the express version of the CMC. Could I buy a Enterprise version and if so where could I get one from? The VRTX was converted from a Tower to a Rack Version, but I did reset the whole thing. Thank you in advance.

Would you verify if the enclosure is up to date as well as the CMC's, and that they match firmware versions?

Let us know.

All firmware is up to date the VRTX accept the CMC, which is at 3.30. I update all firmware once every few months. Thank you.

Hello dcgtechnologies,

Have you tried a CMC fail over after setting orientation the way you want and see if it retains the setting?

I may suggest re apply 3.30 (it indicates it had the fix) or go ahead and update to 3.4 (recommended)

Release 3.30

I only have one CMC in the VRTX at this time. So can I do the update without shutting the whole VRTX down? I will probably wait to do it until I have some downtime if I have to power down the whole system. Where can I acquire an Enterprise License for CMC? Thank you.

Hi, if I may: the firmware update  doesn’t have to have the  whole VRTX down. For the license purchase, we’ll need help from sales. Have a good one!
