The R730xd supports a handful of video cards, but the unvalidated cards are going to cause the iDRAC to spin the fans up to maximum. Because the iDRAC doesn't recognize the GPU, it raises cooling to max, to try to assure the unknown card is cooled. One thing to note is that the GPUs that were validated were validated for GP-GPU compute loads, not video work. What were you needing the server to do?

I'm showing:

Quadro P5000, Tesla M4, FirePro S7150X2, Tesla K20, Pascal GP100, FIrePro S7000, FirePro S7150, FirePro S9050, Grid K2A, Intel 5110P, FirePro S9100, Tesla K20X, Tesla M10, Tesla K80M Duo, Tesla P4, GeForce Titan X, Tesla P40, Grid K2, Intel Phi 7120P, Nvidia M60, Tesla K20C, Quadro K1200, and QUadro M5000.

Sorry if that's a bit of a mess to read. I read through all the part numbers in the database we have for warranty parts and found that these GPUs are all listed.

I have the NVIDIA GRID K2 installed on the R730XD.
To make it properly run I need two risen3 cables. If I don't use them, that's probably the cause why I get error 43 currently (assumption).
If I do use the two risen cables however, the powersupply complains that it had a peak current. So apparently,
750W is too less.
I just wonder why my windows can't install the videocard properly without error 43 without the risen cables attached...

Hi, I’m afraid its’s not supported on R730xd. Could you please refer to the page 10?

Hope this helps and have a great one.

I also installed the Grid K2 in my r730xd. Running Win2019 Core. Worked great. I have dual 1100w power supplies, as well as dual CPUs. You should upgrade your PSU to dual 1100 units so things work properly.

The trick is to disable the iDRAC fan speed-up when it detects third party PCIe cards, via a racadm command. ssh into iDRAC and "racadm set system.thermalsettings.ThirdPartyPCIFanResponse 0"
