dell memory buffers on risers (I and II)
Hi All, I've obtained 4 memory risers, and added more memory to a Dell R910. I matched part numbers when I got the new memory, and added the risers/memory. Now on boot, I get: Memory Buffers I or Risers: B D F H Memory Buffers II on Risers: A C E G Incompatible Memory Riser Configuration Found System halted! I did re-arrange the memory, and it changed the risers around, but the same result. I did try to match up the new memory and old memory in separate banks on the second attempt. Some Questions. are there 2 styles of memory risers, and I have different styles, or is this different styles of memory. I did order by part number, but I didn't get it from Dell. Is there a decent doc or the like with the riser/memory layouts I can look at to find the way the memory on the risers is mapped to the cpu's?

Hello
The memory is not proprietary, so if you used the same model there should be no difference.
You mentioned adding risers and memory, I don't see mention of adding processors. The memory controller is on the CPU. There are two memory risers mapped to each CPU. They are mapped in order. Risers A,B are mapped to CPU1, C,D are mapped to CPU2, etc. There is a diagram of the CPU layout on the top cover of the system. You can find more information in the manual on the system support page.
