iDRAC Group Manager unable to join servers

Hi,

we have 6 servers with iDRAC version 4.22.00.00 (newest) in a single LAN.

Dashboard shows: License: Enterprise.

We can discover the other 5 servers from the first one but we cannot join them.

Error message:

GMGR0016 SVCTAG is unable to join the iDRAC local group GROUP either because the Group passcode is incorrect, group already has the max allowed iDRACs, iDRAC already part of another group, group name does not exist, or issues in network connection.

We checked the passcode, changed it etc., it is correct. There aren't any network issues and the GM was never used on the servers before.

We are running out of ideas, what else can we do ?

Thanks in advance!

Hello,

So that I can better understand, let me ask some basic questions. Are you trying to join these iDRACs to a new group, or a previously existing group? If it is a previously existing group, how many members does it have? If this is a new group, you might try running the following command on it:

racadm racresetcfg

This will reset this specific system to factory default iDRAC settings and any previous configuration would be lost. However, if there was something in the iDRAC software somehow creating an issue, this should address that possibility.

Let me know if this helps.

Hello,

thanks for your reply.

This is a new group. GM was never used before at this site.

Its 6 servers (R740xd).

racresetcfg is a bit difficult but might be the last option I try. I can only remotely access the servers at the moment.

Are there any other options? I have tried removing the GM group and recreating it several times, always the same error.

Hello,

I guess all iDRACs have an Enterprise license. Frankly, I think of resetting as Dylan said. I did some research about that. In release notes, I have found a known issue about "Joining iDRAC to Group Manager fails on VLAN network" and this may be causing this problem. I guess it will be fixed in the next update, you can review via link https://dell.to/34HmAqa

You already mentioned before systems are in a single LAN but even so Could you check the network requirements from here? Maybe we are missing something  https://dell.to/34EnZh4

No success with "racadm racresetcfg". Same with "-all" and "-rc" options.

Any further ideas?

I can't think of anything. I'll try creating my own iDRAC group later today to see if I run into any issues on firmware 4.22.

The only thing we haven't really mentioned is connection. I realize that these are all in the same LAN, but how are they connected? Are they all connected to  a common switch, or is there some more networking than that?

The network / VLAN connection has been checked by the customer's network team, everything seems to be ok, multicast is in no way blocked. All hosts are in one VLAN / broadcast domain.

This time I am at my wits' end....

Yes, the customer's network team has checked the network. (I have given them this link/page to read)

Hi,

From the Group Manager server, you mentioned it is able to discovered as listed in the group manager right? Have you tried to select the listed server, and click on "Onboard and Change login"? You will have to change the login of the server that you are adding, it will be the iDRAC login. Reference: https://dell.to/3jUH3MA
