iDrac 6 unable to ping 1 IP

Dell T310, iDrac 6 express firmware 2.91 (Build 02)

I'm unable to ping 1 particular fixed IP address on the same LAN as the controller.

I am able to ping that IP address from other PC's and servers.

I'm able to ping other fixed and DHCP assigned IP addresses from the iDrac on the LAN.

any ideas as to the possible cause?

I fund out the root cause (as far as I could take it) no ping propagation through a NIC used by the Virtual Switch, in either direction.

Hi David,

There shouldn't be anything halting an iDRAC from pinging a particular IP address on the same LAN. Can the device at that address ping the iDRAC, or does this look like a one way problem? How do these two devices connect? Would that be a single common switch?

a reverse ping is not working either.

the target is a virtual machine communicating through a 'virtual switch' created by Hyper-V.

the target can ping other IP on the LAN

the iDrac can ping other PC on the LAN, but not VM's (just found out)

If it can't ping multiple VMs and they're all on this host, the common factor I would be looking at is the vSwitch and how it is set up. For example, one thing you may want to look for is if the vSwitch is an external switch, or if it is either a private or internal switch.

Have you tried using a tracert to see where the traffic has problems?
