poweredge 2650 usb no 2.0?

I am trying to attach an external usb drive to my pe2650.  I am wondering if it might be easier to backup to it and take it off site than trying to back up to tapes (they are expensive, never mind the tape drive price) the usb drive works just about anywhere!

When I plug it in I am told that it is a hispeed device plugging to a non hispeed usb and I need a hub or something.  The sc400 was the first with the usb2 and I thought the 2650 had same am I wrong?  thanks

Hi,

The PowerEdge 2650 does not have USB version 2.0.

These newer PowerEdge Servers have USB 2.0 capability:
PowerEdge 400SC
PowerEdge 700
PowerEdge 750
PowerEdge 1850
PowerEdge 2800
PowerEdge 2850
PowerEdge 7250

Check out the new PowerEdge Server - Frequently Asked Questions section of the Dell Community Forums.

The specific link for the PowerEdge 2650.

Please post any comments / suggestions on the FAQs at this link.

Thanks for using the Dell Community Forums!

That's what I was afraid of.  Will it work with a PCI add in card for usb 2.0 or firewire?  I have an open slot.

Thanks

Hi,

Unfortunately, I do not know the answer to that question. Dell has never tested or validated any PCI USB or Firewire cards.

Thanks

Just curious if this is still the case....

Has anyone successfully installed a PCI USB card into a Dell Poweredge 2650?  If so, what make/model of card.

Thank you.

Thanks...We are 0 for 2 on attempts right now...do you remember if it was a 32 bit or 64 bit card?

We did put one in and it did work, don't remember the name of the card though and I can't take the server down to open it up and have a look for you.  It was a standard off the shelf card I believe, a 4 port pci add in card.

My server is Dell Power Edge 2850. As I understand it has PCI-X interface.

I want to use Western Digital 500GB triple interface hard drive with Firewire 800.

There are several PCI-X Firewire 800 cards available on the market.

The quesiton is if they are PCI-X does this mean they will work on my
2850?

thanks in advance.
