teac cd-224e not working properly

i have an inspiron 2500 and i has a teac cd-224e, it says on its description that it is a cd-rw and reads dvds. the only thing i can get it to do is reqad cds and thats it, itried looking for driver updates but never found any. i was wondering if anyone knew what i can do to get it working!!!
