Dell server has been rebooted accidentally when I connect it remotely from my desktop !!
Hello,
My server has been rebooted accidentally when I connect it remotely from my desktop !!
I have a Dell PowerEdge2950 server which has 2G memory and Quad 2.0 Ghz CPU on it.
Windows2003 SP2 is installed on it. and Symantec BackupExec2010R3 is running on it. (It's backup server).
it has two NIC of Broadcom BCM5708C NetXtremeII GigE and it's drive is 6.2.8.0. a date of driver is 2011-01-14.
but only one NIC is cabled with UTP.
And a Display Adapter is ATi ES1000 which version is 8.24.3.0, date is 2006-04-05.
The problem is when I connect it remotely, often it is rebooted accidentally without any notice.
There're no special logs in event logs. and no Memory Dump in windows folder when crashed even it's set a Kernel Dump for troubleshooting.
I really have no idea how to solve and where to find any clue on this trouble.
even I was upgrade both NIC and Display driver, it happens again again again.
Eventually, I did turn off a monitoring / alert service on this server - MS watchup.
Please if you have any experience to solve this case before or any knowledge how to approach this case, would you please let me know ??

2. Dell SAS 5/E Adapter Controller (1.28.3.1, 2008-07-09)
3. Dell PERC 6/E Adapter RAID controller. (2.23.0.32, 2008-07-01)

"but only one NIC is cabled with UTP." if unused, NIC should be disabled
Disable ALL power saving, including NIC, USB, hibernation,
Run the Dell diags, primarily for memory test.
Google memory leak detection
www.microsoft-questions.com/.../memory-usage-in-xp-memory-leak-detection.aspx
"If you have a memory leak then one the programs in list will consume increasingly
If you have a memory leak then one the programs in list will consume
increasing amounts of memory. Take a snapshot in Task Manager twice a day,
then compare the figures. If they remain much the same then you do not have
a memory leak."
Use the standard VGA driver originally installed with the OS, gives you a simple uncomplicated driver .
Check for virus/rootkits
If you have an Intel NIC around, swap it in, and disable the wannabe Broadcom
2G memory ..memory is cheap, I would get at least 4Gig, if you do get it of a company which guarantees, this also basicly rules out memory errors which are not caught in memory tests.
Run chkdsk, correct any errors.
