Trouble installing Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64-bit on Del R320

Hello.

I'm trying to install Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64-bit on a Dell R320 server, which is setup with a RAID 1 (H310) for 2 SATA HDDs (for the OS and applications) and RAID 10 (H710) for 4 SAS HDDs (for data).
I have setup the machine to boot with UEFI.

I burnt the ISO image of Ubuntu onto a CD and proceeded with the installation, choosing a guided installation with encrypted LVM.

After taking care of several options and seeing lots files getting copied, the system rebooted.

Once the initial boot information was displayed on screen, I got the following error: "efidisk read error". I thought the server had frozen there, but then Ubuntu was loaded normally (or so it seems).

Furthermore, running sudo parted /dev/sda print all gives me the following:

The RAID 10 volume is nowhere to be found.

Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance!

Hi, Does the PERC controller show the RAID 10 as online? Having both an H310 and an H710 in the same server is not a typical configuration, how are they connected to the backplane?

Hi Josh.

Thank you for getting back to me and forgive my late reply. You see I had locked myself out of my forum account and I was waiting from the kind people at #DellCares to help me restore access to my account.

You are right about H710. I misread the initial configuration I printed when ordering the server. In fact there's only H310 in it.

I installed Ubuntu 2 times in UEFI mode and I'd always get the same error. I decided to change to BIOS mode and voila: the error was gone.

As for the RAID 10 volume, it's now visible and needs to be mounted.
