PowerVault 705n

Jump to solution

I have been given a Dell PowerVault 705N still in its original configuration and hard drives.

I downloaded the management software for it and it couldnt find it on my network, probably due to the previous owner having changed the IP settings.

I solbed this by removing the bios battery from within it and I was then able to discover the device on the network and using the PV Assist software.

The problem I have no is that i cannot access the settings due to the administrator password being set.

I cannot for the life of me get past this, I have pressed reset 4 times as it states in the manual and the default password of 'powervault' does not work at all!

I have had the battery, all the hard drives out everything, I just cannot seem to reset the administrator back to its factory default.

How can I do this, is it even possible to reset the admin password?

Many Thanks

The only thing i could find:

To reset the system:

  1. Power it off.
  2. To the left of the power button is a small hole, inside of which is the Reset button. Use a pencil point or similar object to hold down the Reset button and power the unit back on. Keep the Reset button depressed until both the System and Disk lights start flashing in synch.
  3. Release the Reset button.
  4. Briefly press the Reset button:
    • Once to clear just the IP address
    • Twice to clear just the Administrator password
    • Three times to clear the system's network settings
    • Four times to clear all system settings
  5. Watch the Disk light and verify that the number of times it flashes corresponds to the number of times the Reset button was pressed. For example, if the Reset button was pressed three times to clear the network settings, the Disk light should flash three times repeatedly to confirm the Reset. If the number of flashes does not match the number intended, repeat steps 4 and 5.
  6. When the light confirms the intended level of reset, press and hold the Reset button until both the System and Disk lights turn off, then release the Reset button. The system will restart and restore the selected settings to factory defaults.
