What is/isn't degraded?

I have 6 MD1200s attached to a PowerEdge Server R710 with 3 Perc800 controller cards. Vdisks each have 2 of the MD1200s, with a dedicated hot spare, in an attempt to keep things simple and separate.

One disk failed and the corresponding vdisk/controller started to rebuild. Output of "omreport storage vdisk" shows what I expected, one vdisk degraded and non-critical status, the others ready and okay. But the output from "omreport storage controller" shows all three as degraded. Does this make sense? What can I do to bring them to a normal state, just wait for the rebuild to finish?

Also, the vdisk output lists "HotSpare Policy violated : Not Assigned" for all three. Yet 2 have dedicated hot spares, and the other one did until the disk fail. What is this telling me?

Hoping for hints,

Dave

Hello tdbtdb12,

What drive sizes do you have in your MD1200’s?  What is the drive size of your hot spares?  What is the current version of firmware for your PERC H800?  What is the version of openmanage are you using?

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Could it be that my firmware is too old and so the controllers list as degraded?

Oops, didn't see your reply at first. All disks are the same size, except for one I bought by mistake, which shows up as unsupported. The firmware is almost certainly the issue, it is old. So is OMSA. That must be the answer.

Thanks,

Dave

Hello tdbtdb12,

I would upgrade the firmware on your controller as well as OMSA to see if that has any change.  In most cases that I have seen that is normally the issue.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.
