7910t ram issues
How much insight do you have into the dell t7910? I have dual cpus. One I purchased and added later. Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2640 v4 @ 2.40GHz 2.40 GHz. The machine will boot in some of the lower configurations I’ve attempted like 8, 8gb sticks. When I use the documentation for this system (ram chart) I has you populate all 8 white dimms on the board. The condition I get when I do this is white power button no video.

Ok I discovered that the second cpu seems to be the culprit. It would boot with 64gb of eight 8 gb sticks but not passed that with higher capacity ram modules. Is this a bios setting or just a bad CPU? Mind you I could get all the way to windows with the 64gb configuration.

Hello,
at least you know that the dimm sockets are all working ( and by your 2nd comment, that you can install higher than 8gb modules with just the original cpu installed ).
Do the 2 cpu have the same stepping ?

check with cpu-z or another software of your preference, if the stepping of the new cpu is the same as the one originally installed. Maybe you got a quality sample as 2nd cpu ( aka a pre production chip )

I will check it out. I ordered two 2680s to see if I could get that working.

good luck, make sure they have the same stepping ( in this case too, there are just 2 options : pre release, and release. Make sure they are not pre release )
