Compact Flash Card Reader corrupts Compact Flash formatted with Fat

I have a Dell Precision 5810.  I recently reinstalled Windows 10 and have been having this issue ever since. For my work we use Compact Flash cards which must be formatted with plain Fat, and I use the built-in card reader.  I always "safely eject" the cards, but about 1/4 -1/3 of the time when plugging the cards into our Fanuc controller (CNC Machine) we get a "format error".

So I will take it back to the computer and sure enough when I plug it back in Windows will say there is an error with the card and will repair the card, and it generally works after that until I load it on the computer again.  I've tried formatting the card(s) and that hasn't helped.  Any suggestions?

USE newer cards that are faster and use USB reader.

Cards should not be larger than 32 gigs or they will be EXFAT/FAT32 not FAT16
