Please link to where it officially limits Hard drive or SSD size. That doesn't make sense. Are you thinking of the amount of RAM that is supported instead of SSD size?

Need more information!

Exceeding max storage capacity can cause problems and ultimately freeze a machine before resetting; even without the device being full.  I've experimented with this myself.

Due to getting 2 different references that should be reliable, it's definitely worth double checking.  A machine can have the same model #, but capacities may vary depending on configurations it was ordered with.  It's one of the reasons some capacities may not be listed in the manual.  This has been more common with newer machines.  The manual definitely didn't mention "limitless."

I did a live chat with Dell Support direct.  I hope this helps, here's the 1st answer pasted:

"Technically, there's no particular set max limit. But you're right, it's not limitless. At some point, it'll run into performance issues. Biggest ones we have officially tested are 2TB SATA SSDs and HDD's, without any performance issues."

2nd answer:

SATA 7200RPM Up to 3.0TB
SATA 10KRPM Up to 500GB
SAS 10K RPM Up to 900GB
SAS 15K RPM Up to 300GB
SSD Up to 512GB
PCIe SSD : Micron P320h 350GB

I questioned Crucial's reference:  "You're welcome, [bradthetechnut]. And yes, it will be best to follow the specification sheet by Dell to use the correct parts on the system. It can also be found via Dell.com/support page"

You may already know, if your machine is in warranty, using the right parts keeps it valid.  It's a safe bet going with Dell's spec. sheet.

If it helps, the previous generation of Precision's, the T3500 & T5500, have a max SSD capacity of 256GB.

If your T3610 is new or in warranty, for the best and timely service, you're welcome to welcome to chat, email, or call Dell Support direct at Dell.com.  The button to initiate is in the lower left corner.  And of course you're welcome to use Dell Community.
