Graphics Card for Precision 5810 supporting Shader Model 6.0 and DirectX 12
Hello all. I have a Dell Precision 5810 with a Intel(R) X eon (R) CPU E5-1620 v3 @ 3.50GHz 3.50 GHz processor and AMD Fire Pro W4100 (Fire G L V) adapter. I have a new 3D CAD design program that requires a graphics card that supports shade model 6.0 and Direct X 12. Can anyone recommend a compatible graphics card that can?
Thank You!

I recommend QUADRO RTX 4000.
Works fine even in my precision T1700 with 365w power supply.
A less expensive GPU that does OK for workloads is the AMD RX550 from Yeston.

Thank you Speedstep! It looks like the QUADRO RTX 4000 is out of stock on the Dell website. Would I be safe purchasing it from Newegg? Will I need an aux power cable to power the RTX 4000?
Thanks!

I never recommend Quadro boards, unless you use a software where Geforce boards are locked from use (ANSYS).
Quadro boards are used by CGI designers ONLY. These boards provide advanced monitor outputs, and advanced(not optimized) open-gl rendering, with better wireframe antialiasing. That's all.
In every other aspect Geforce RTX30 is better. It is faster, it has the same amount of faster RAM, it is overclockable. And it is 3-4 times CHEAPER.
Remember that Quadro RTX 4000-8000 are based on Geforce RTX20 series, inferior to Geforce RTX30, and underclocked comparing to GF RTX 20
I tell you that as an owner of Quadro RTX 5000. A very overpriced board, offering no benefits other than unlocked acceleration with ANSYS.
P.S. If you want a real overkill, get "RTX A6000". It is a rebranded quadro, featuring double amount of RAM comparing to RTX 3090.

Nvidia vr ready systems
My T1700 running windows 11 works fine for Autocad, Maya, Adobe etc. RX550 is admirable for its use case but real work supported by the vendors requires quadro RTX 4000 card for stability and certification.

Nvidia has four Quadro RTX GPUs, from the mid-range to the high-end.
PNY Quadro RTX 4000 B07P6CDHS5
The Quadro RTX 4000 (8GB GDDR6), RTX 5000 (16GB GDDR6) and RTX 6000 (24GB GDDR6) are essentially replacements for the Pascal-based Quadro P4000 (8GB GDDR5), P5000 (16GB GDDR5X) and P6000 (24GB GDDR5X). There’s also a new ultra high-end model, the Quadro RTX 8000 (48GB GDDR6), which is essentially the RTX 6000 with double the memory. It’s designed specifically to overcome the challenges of using the GPU for really high-end rendering where the datasets can be incredibly complex.
Users can also double the addressable memory by using two GPUs in the same workstation. This is done through NVlink, a proprietary Nvidia technology that is supported on the RTX 5000 and above. Those who can afford two Quadro RTX 8000s, for example, can effectively have a GPU with a colossal 96GB. With this amount of memory Nvidia really can start to compete with the massively scaleable CPU architecture.

large RAM is made not for rendering but for accelerated computation, and neural network AIs.
And the cae accelerated software often blocks GF boards from use in cartel agreement with nVidia. NN specialists actually prefer GF boards, or go to TESLA and Ampere boards when large amounts of directly accessible RAM is required.
Specialists do not like Quadro, specialists HATE Quadro and how the industry pushes their sales. That's why nVidia has finally abandoned the brand.

Geforce FX 3090 FP32 36TFLOPS without overclock. Every vendor sells factory overclocked Geforce boards
GF RTX3090 ¥290,000 in retail
Quadro RTX 6000 ¥560,000
RTX A6000 ¥601,000
Feel the difference.

Thank you Andy812 & Speedstep for the robust conversation! Most of the conversation was above my technical knowledge but believe I understood the basic meaning behind it. Prior to your (Andy812) response I had ordered the QUADRO RTX 4000. Having done a little research on my own after Speedstep's recommendation, I think it will do well for my needs. I will let you both know!
Thanks!

I guess I am a bit late to suggest the Quadro M4000. For a little cost, it can perform amazingly for your needs. Personally, I would not add/invest anything over the value into a 400 USD T5810. Today markets are flooded with newer 5820 from off leases and corporate closed-out. For around 700 - 800 USD, you could get a complete 5820 with W-Xeon, 32 GB of RAM, 1 to 5 TB of NVME, and a Pascal or Maxwell 5000.
