How is Internal SAS Storage Implemented for the Precision 3630?
The product details page for the Precision 3630 states: "Expandable and flexible: Scalable storage featuring SATA, SAS and PCIe NVMe SSDs can be configured....". After reading all of the technical info that I could find for the 3630 I surmised that there was no onboard SAS controller and that a PCI-e controller card would be required. An online chat with Technical Support confirmed this but they were unable to provide a part number for a compatible card. They gave me a telephone number for Sales and said that they would know the correct part number for my system. Well, they didn't.
So, my question is, does anyone have any information on how SAS storage is implemented for the 3630? Does anyone have a system that was factory configured with SAS drives (I couldn't find such an option on the configuration menu for the 3630)? If so, can you please provide part numbers for the controller/RAID card, the cables and any interposer that may be required? Likewise. if anyone has successfully installed a third-party solution, could you please provide the technical details for the controller/RAID card, the cables and any required interposer? I don’t need a RAID solution, so an SAS HBA would suffice. Any information (including RAID solutions) would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to avoid buying a controller and then finding it is incompatible with my Precision 3630.
