Hi @Jorhal,
This thread is in the Precision forum. Optiplex forum is here.
Your socket type is LGA775. Replacing MB with another can certainly seem cheap and easy. Even in that generation of Optiplex's, rear panel layouts changed from Optiplex to Optiplex. The 380 had a slightly smaller MB as compared to its successors - models with higher numbers (still in the 3-digit generation). So I'm not sure one way or the other if the MB screw holes would line up. One can Google MB images and inside of PC images using particular model numbers.
Even if you successfully changed MB's, like one for a 755, or a 780, and so on, chances are you won't see that much difference in performance unless you max the RAM and go with an SSD.
With the 380 going back around 15 yrs., you're definitely due something newer, as in definitely newer than the generation the 380 is in.

Not much was said, so I think I better understood your inquiry after I answered it. An Optiplex MB with LGA 1155 is a no go in a 380. Reasons I gave above still apply.
Also, looking at the front of a tower, MB's in the 380 generation were on the left side. The next generation, with socket type LGA 1155, has the MB's on the right side.
