This was why I ordered the battery directly for Dell. The order still shows in my purchase history on dell.com:
Order date: Aug 11, 2019| Order: | Dell Purchase ID:
Are you suggesting that Dell shipped me a knock-off battery? I am not understanding your post at all.
Note that this post above is no solution and I did not indicate it as such. I am marking this post as a solution to avoid all confusion on my question with no solution provided.
Sorry but your post defies all logic and is not an answer or even relevant to this thread. Writing, "I don't know how long the battery lasts" would have been a better post.
I did not even ask about the battery's warranty.
This remains unsolved especially considering a brand new batter shows the same issue.
The controller card uses the same battery as the PERC8 controller when I last contacted support for a battery replacement. It is a thick bigger battery larger than a 9V but not as thick. My controller card gets very hot, so it could be that the battery is now bad. It is plugged in as expected, but it keeps showing as disconnected. This just started recently out of the blue one day.
I did notice during power failures when my UPS could not last until shutdown under Windows that my workstation would display the same battery disconnected message when I powered it back on. However, after leaving the machine powered on for some time allowing the battery to recharge, the message would go away. Now the message is staying forever. This seems to hint that the battery is no longer able to hold a charge.
I will try ordering a new battery. I have to call to order it, because I see absolutely no way to find it online. I tried searching the part number with no luck (Item Number 7VJMH or 375-6061).
Dell sells the part directly for less than $16 US dollars. One just has to call them to order. I cannot find a way to buy it online directly from them.
It looks like Dell is out of stock on this battery now. People are buying them cheap from Dell and reselling them for higher prices most likely. I am surprised Dell is allowing this.
I just received a brand new battery last night and installed it into my PERC H710P controller card. I powered it on after installation, and it had been on since. Moments ago I shut down the workstation to perform an image backup using my boot CD. When I powered it back on, I am again seeing a message from the PERC controller stating the battery is either discharged or disconnected. This tells me that the Dell battery is actually not bad at all. There is some goofy issue with the controller card.
After my image backup completes, I will look for reset options in the PERC controller's setup screen. This issue started when using megaraid under Linux. I will also restore my Windows 10 image to see if this goes away with megaraid installed under it. It could be that the Linux version intentionally disables the battery for some weird reason.
To determine if problem leaded by a defective battery:
1) With OpenManage Server Administrator (OMSA) installed, perform Learn Cycle manually. Acknowledge here.
"A Learn Cycle causes the battery to discharge and recharge, and should restore the battery to a fully functional condition."
2) Simply allow the battery to be fully charged for 30mins and see if problem persist. Acknowledge here.
3) Sometimes outdated RAID card firmware or even server/workstation BIOS may be the root cause, like this for example. Try update your H710 and machine to the latest firmware/BIOS version.
Unfortunately, OMSA will only install on Windows Server. I had this discussion with Dell support when I originally purchased my Precision Workstation. Dell does not officially offer any way to test or maintain the PERC controller on a non-server based system.
The unofficial way to do it is use MegaRAID. I was actually surprised to learn this from support, because they installed MegaRAID under Windows Professional when I received my workstation. The installers did this themselves, but Dell does not even support it.

rechargeable batteries are only guaranteed for 1 year.
So I'm not sure what you are expecting. Real ones are much more expensive than knock offs.

Seems short! The CMOS batteries on motherboards seem to last forever. In fact, I do not recall ever having to replace one.
Is the PERC P710P battery a standard lithium CR2032? Suppose not.

A Google search of "Dell 7VJMH" finds a number of sellers, including Amazon. Have a look. The prices seem a bit high though!

Dell shipped you a dell battery
It lasted one year
You are done there is no warranty left on the battery. You can buy another from dell or buy a knock off for $20.

There are no solutions that Involve giving you a new battery after having used one for 1 year.
Dell batteries come with a 1-year warranty. End of story.
End of support.
