Not Likely to physically fit in the case and power supply doesn't have 2 8 pin PCI-E Aux power connectors.

While some motherboard manufacturers already put out some mb with pci-e 4.0 for intel cpus , in the past few months, to enable pci-e 4.0 requires the new cpus ( 11th gen ) that intel will start selling in this 1st quarter of 2021.

I would assume that WHEN the newer xeons with pci-e 4.0 support will hit the market, dell will have an offering. But it's likely it could be a new unit entirely ( 7930 ? ).

In any case if they refresh the 7920 lineup offering a newer motherboard + newer cpu ( like they did for Gen2 ), you would have to actually change both the mb and the cpus and I don't know how that would sit with the warranty.

Mmmm

if not fitting inside, why not going the less clean way of using pci-e extension cables ( quality ones ) and putting the gpu outside ? It would solve his issue without drawbacks aside the space used.

Or the clean way of finding a thunderbolt card > adding it > getting an external gpu box and fit the 3090 there.

The less clean is quicker, cheaper and probably more flexible : some extension cables (works up to 3 meters without issues) , a power supply, and something small to assemble them into

I understand. So it's up to the dell guys if they want to replace my motherboard and cpu with a new one. To be clear i can pay for a new mb and cpu, i m not assuming that it will be an exchange :)))))

I do need better performance because i need it at my projects.

The outside of the box GPUs it's kind of out of the question, that said this means that 3090 is out. The new RTX A6000 has almost the same size like RTX 8000, and it fits my unit, i'll that route.

I`ll open a ticket at dell to inform them about the upgrade that i want to make as soon as the mb and rtx a6000 are available. What do you think that they will want to do it?

Thank you for your solutions.

I will change anything to make it work even the power box.

Thank you for your solution. I`ll report as unresolved customer service issues.
