RAID Card For Precision 7920

I've got a Precision 7920 that I purchased about a year ago, and I'd like to add a RAID volume for storage on it. I'm currently using a PCI-e SSD as my boot drive, and I would like to use some SATA Samsung 860 Pro drives in the 4 front hot swap bays for the RAID volume.

Is there a recommendation on what RAID card would be best to use?

Thanks,

Rob

Hi @robkbriggs,

Check out this post:

Upgrading Storage in the Dell Precision 5820 | 7820 | 7920 Tower Workstations

It mentioned MegaRAID 9440-8i and MegaRAID 9460-16i throughout the post. May have a look on it.

Does the hard drive progress indicator which is below the power button is it blinking?. I have installed and everything works except for the HD progress indicator.

Hi:

How did you connect the card to the system: IE what cables and ports?  I see PCIE HD "square" ports not being used on the back next to the drives.

I have 8 drives up already on native Intel controller.

Did you disable the Intel controller to get this to work?

Mine is coming in a week and I need to order cables and connect it up.
