T5500 Memory Configuration
Hello,
I have a Precision T5500 Workstation with 1 CPU (an E5504 quad core). The working RAM is a chip of Samsung M39185673EH1-CF8 2GB 2Rx8 PC3-8500 ECC Unbuffered Server RAM. I purchased four Hynix HMT31GR7BFR4A 8GB 2Rx4 PC3-10600 ECC Server RAM. When powering on the system, the motherboard will absolutely not accept any configuration of the Hynix RAM (it beeps at me). According to page 2 of the manual for this motherboard, I have a supported memory module. I've tried inserting one, two, three, and four, and in accordance with the manual for 24 GB (3x 8GB chips). Still no luck. I am not mixing the RAM brands or speeds or types - they are identical. It's not bad RAM, because I purchased them new and none of the chips will take. Oh, and I reset the BIOS, too. The original Samsung RAM does not cause a beep and it works perfectly.
Am I missing something here?
Thank you,
Brady

Indeed, it looks like the memory you purchased should work. You're on the right track with matching the chips. However, there's a couple of other things to know. A post* I recently answered applies here too. Unfortunately, it is the memory.

Thanks. I'm thinking I will just sell the RAM I bought and buy the exact model of RAM Dell support recommends.

You're welcome. Tip: Always make sure RAM and any other components come with a return policy.
