Did the system work before it started doing this? I'm not familiar with the T5500 but I don't think it's much different than my T7500. I know my system is quite finicky about how the RAM slots are populated and what type of RAM can be installed in what slots and in what order and so on. Check the Dell web site and get the operator's manual pdf for your system and check the RAM population schedule. Don't know if that will help but it's worth a shot. If that doesn't get it straightened out then I'm guessing you have a PCB problem with the riser board. I have fixed dead motherboards by putting them in an oven at 325 degrees for about 5 to 10 minutes to re-flow the solder traces but I would make that a 'last resort'. Try that at your own risk.
Same problem on T5500. But sometimes it is DIMM3, and sometimes it is RISER DIMM3, and sometimes the problem goes away after a few weeks, and it is different if the motherboard and riser are populated with X5650 processors and with X5690 processors. I have swapped out DIMM3 and RISER DIMM 3 DIMMs. No help there.
