Precision 7540 RAM SPEED

I have a 7540 with a Xeon processor.

I have put in new RAM to this compuer from my old 2666 to cruisal 3200.

I have checked and checked and this RAM is compatibal to this computer but I CANT GET THIS RAM TO RUN AT 3200?

Anybody with same problem? This is so annoying.

According to Intel's specifications, that processor runs memory at maximum 2666 MHz.

Do you have all 4 RAM slots filled (you did not state the total RAM in the system)? If you have 2666 and 3200 installed in the system then all RAM will run at 2666.

The other thing you need to post is the CPU model that's installed.  The CPU is what controls the memory speed.  Chances are high that a system which shipped with 2666 MHz RAM has a CPU that cannot run RAM at 3200 MHz -- meaning that the new RAM simply downclocks to match the memory controller (which is aboard the CPU) speed.

I have a Dell 7540 with Xeon E2276m,I tried SAMSUNG and Crucial's DDR4-3200,Both still ran at 2666.

Then, I upgraded CPU to i9 9980HK(using BGA rework station), then I bought two SAMSUNG DDR4 3200 32G RAM, this time they were running at 3200

But sadly, the system is seriously unstable. I got a BSOD when starting Windows 11, and the notebook freeze when running the Dell Diagnosis in BIOS.
