1815 dn - Installing the Network Scanner - Network Connection error?

Question

Hello everyone! I recently purchased a new laptop computer and installed the MFP 1815 drivers on it.  The printer is already on a network and this new laptop is joining it.  However, for some reason, I cannot get the Network Scanner to install (using the Add Device Wizard).  It keeps saying 'Unknown Error.  Please check your network connection.'  The OS system on the laptop is Vista 64-bit.  I was able to install the printer driver as the 'print test page' functionality works. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this to work? Amol, I'm not 100% positive, but I believe you must use the installation CD to install the scanner. This printer uses a network scan manager utility which controls the scanner.

Hi Ilynster,

Thanks for the tip - I did use the Installation CD but that didn't work. I am told that it is probably an incompatibility with the 64 bit Vista version and that a new driver has yet to be released.

Having same issue with Win 7 32bit, firewall is set to allow access for  DNSCST.exe(Dell network Scan Manager). not sure what else to try. all other function work fine just can't scan to computer

I am having this same issue (can print fine but cannot scan).  If anyone has a solution to this, it would be much appreciated.
