1815dn network scan to Paperport?

Question

Hi,

I have WinXP SP2, with Net Scan v1.06.11. And a brand new 1815dn as of today--network attached.

I can scan using the printer's front panel to a file.

==>> Can I set up net scan so "Paperport" is available on the Printer's front panel?

Paperport is not listed as a Net Scan app. It is listed on the Dell Scan Center app.

The Scan Center app doesn't appear to work--is TWAIN for only locally-connected printer/scanners?

As far as I know, TWAIN functionality is only supported for direct USB connections. Otherwise, you have to go through the 'dell network scan' application.

There have been a lot of complaints / feature requests for this (on both the 1815 and the 1600), but so it goes. The only thing I find odd is that the TWAIN driver is installed by default for a network installation -- where as far as I know it's completely useless. When I had the TWAIN driver installed, if I tried to control the scanner over the network (with say Paperport) it would usually freeze my system.

Edit: You should still be able to add paperport to the front panel though via Dell Network Scan. Open DNS, highlight the printer, and click properties, click the preferences tab, if paperport isn't listed in the pane on the left, add it as an application, then move it to the 'front panel destination list'

I agree, it makes no sense to install the Twain driver for a network installed printer/scanner.

Re Dell Network Scan (DNS) to PaperPort...I went to try it again just now and I was happily surprised to see the PaperPort icon in the DNS app since it wasn't there previously. I guess at some point either DNS noticed PaperPort or the other way around.

So it is working now via network scan. Hooray.

To anyone reading this, I'd advise the old re-boot trick. Also, I'm using the sw upgrade (firmware and apps) for the 1815dn for Win XP from the Dell site.

So using Paperport over the network (not USB) doesn't work with 1815dn? How do I do if I want to scan pictures with higher resolution than the one offered with Network scan (300dpi)? According the specs for the 1815dn, the maximum Scan Resolution is 'up to 4800 x 4800 dpi interpolated, 600 x 1200 optical (Scanning supported in both 24-bit color and black & white)'.

Swede, I don't think you can.  For what it's worth, base100 is slower than USB2 and transfering mega resolution images would probably be bad for most networks.
