3110CN diagonal banding

Question

I have a 3110CN printer that's a little over a year old. The left side of printouts is showing some significant diagonal banding. Here is a sample image.

The printer status page shows that all of the color toner cartridges are at 60%, the black is at 40% and both the fuser and belt unit are still at 100%. Could this be a belt or fuser problem that isn't being detected?

Absolutely; The meters that show life for cartridges, fuser, etc won't detect most problems that cause poor print quality. I would say from your sample it is less likely that the fuser is the problem. I would start with the belt unit and/or the black toner first.

Man, I'm sorry about all of your problems you're having. I have the good fortune of our company doing enough business with Dell that I just e-mail my sales rep, tell him what I need, and he ships it to me. The number I have for ordering supplies though is: 1-877-465-2968 and from I can tell you can only order toner online, not other parts. Hope this helps.

Thanks again, Mike. Have you ever been able to order one online or has it always been over the phone? I just hung up after 40 minutes on the phone when they attempted to transfer me for the seventh time. I asked about the maintenance kit but the person I talked with knew even less about that.

Thanks for reply, Mike. I appreciate the help. Now I'd just like to say, 'WOW.' I have been trying for two days to order a belt unit from Dell but I can't even get a part number. I've talked with 6 different people and been on hold for a total of 45 minutes but, according to the folks I've talked with, Dell doesn't even sell replacement belt units for its own printers. Does anyone out there know the part number for the belt unit? Is there any other resource for purchasing belt units? If I can't get a new belt unit I now have a $300 paperweight that's just over a year old. Thanks Dell!

The part number for the belt unit should be: 094-422 However, it is normally order in what is called a maintenance kit, which is why the people at Dell may be acting stupid about it. The maintenance kit will also come with a fuser and separator rollers for your paper trays. With all of our 3110 printers we have I go ahead and order the maintenance kits so I will have the parts on hand I need.

I just had to order one of these.  You need to order it through the Spare Parts division of Dell, which is via phone.  The part number I have is:  HG432.  If your printer is still under warranty, you should be able to get Dell Support to send it out for free -- via online chat.   HTH

Thanks for the assistance, Mike and HTH. I received a new toner cartridge and, at the moment, the banding is gone -- hopefully that solves everything.

I wrote those part numbers down in my user manual so I hope I now have the proper info to get the parts I need should I require them.

I called Dell and tried to order the Maintenance Kit, and got someone saying they had no clue what that was. So went through thr trouble to select all the items that would be in it, and get to the end of the order process and she miraculously finds the kit, so we have to almost start over.

The kit with shipping (overnight) was around $300, purchased individually it would have been over $400, so came out well. Here is the info for the Kit Sku#310-8730 Part#B UG190. This might help someone else to get to ordering and not spending over an hour trying to accomplish this easy task.
