5100cn 64 bit driver install?

I have a new laptop using Windows Vista 64 bit operating system and want to use my Dell 5100cn printer. I downloaded the driver from a link in the Dell vista forum but it does not have an install with it. Do I use the install disk and hope it sees the Vista driver?
The Vista 64 bit driver is not listed under the printer drivers but the 32 bit is. Has anyone got the 64 bit to work? How?

The driver you've downloaded is just the 64bit driver .inf file itself.

To get it installed do this...

  • Open Control Panel
  • Open the printer icon
  • Add a local printer > Then click next
  • Choose a printer port (If you're installing this via USB, look for USB001) > Then click next
  • The Install printer driver window will open > Choose the HAVE DISK button
  • Click the Browse button and find the file that you downloaded. I you have a Dell laptop and if you chose the default download path it should be in > C:\dell\drivers\R167001\Win_x64\PCL\English or C:\dell\drivers\R167001\Win_x64\PS\English - if you want the Postscript driver.
  • Click OK
  • The driver should be listed in the next window.
  • Click Next.
  • Change the name of the printer if you'd like it displayed differently and set it as the default printer if you want it to be.
  • Try to print a test page for verification of functionality.

You should be up and going.

Thanks, sometimes the fix is just too simple to figure out. The Vista machine is up and printing now. Thanks! :smileyhappy:
