900 Service RIP Software

Question

Original Dell M5200 Laser (7 months old).  Intermittent error described in the subject for the past 4 months.  I restart printer and the error clears but returns after a few days. I did a quick google search and found several sites that claim that configuring the Restrictive Server List parameter of the printer via telnet will solve my problems  see http://www.ccs.ryerson.ca/uploads/forms/setup%20lexmark%20access%20list.pdf I did what the document claims but the error returned 3 days later.   I contacted Dell support and a tech replaced the controller board but the error returned after 1 week.  I contacted Dell support again and a new printer was deliver to my door within 24 hrs. I installed the new printer last night.  This morning the '900 Service RIP Software' error message was being displayed on the LCD screen of the new printer.   These printers are a headache and I will not buy another Dell printer ever again.  I asked the support desk to send me a parallel port adapter that I can install on the printer (no answer on my request yet).  My plan is to use an HP Jet Direct external print server.

I have been receiving that exact error on my W5300 printers. I too have replaced the system board and that did not help.

Here's what did help:

1) if you disable in the web interface, under Printer Server SEttings the HTTP Server Enabled, and the HTTP Config Enabled - the problem WILL go away. HOWEVER, you will loose the ability to remotely administer these printers.

2) Just yesterday Dell supplied a firmware upgrade that is to fix the 900 RIP errors. The file name is: 551_061.fly

This is a firmware upgrade that is to fix the problem, then you do not need to unenable the web interface.

Here is the file name: 551_061.fly   I did a search on Dell's site, but cannot find the file either. A Dell rep emailed it to me.   I wonder if you ask their tech support explicity for the file, they could give you a copy.   Diane

The Dell M5200 is essentially the same printer as Lexmark T630. The firmware file can be downloaded from the Lexmark website. I don't know why Dell hasn't posted this yet. (the file name is the same:55_10_61.fly)):

I am having this same issue - I downloaded the firmware file, but still getting the error - anyone else have a suggestion on how to fix?
