900 service Rip Software Error Message on the Dell 5200
I keep getting this error on the screen of the printer, periodically. I will restart and it will go away and it will be fine for about 3 to 5 days and it will disable itself and say the same thing on the screen!!! What could be causing this? Dell wants to replace both of the main boards on the printer. Is that the only way to go or is there another way to fix this??? I really don't want to be dealing with this issue again! Thanks for your help and hope someone has resolved this issue before.

In order to understand when it's coming from you have to give more information.
Does it happen when printer is printing a job from a PC, or when it just stands alone idle?
In first case it's probably a job that is generated by the driver which cannot be properly "digested" by the printer. In this case, press select and return on the OP as soon as you get the secondary code message and write it down. Then call Dell support and tell them about it.
If the printer is getting 900 RIP error when being idle, I'd recommend disconencting it from the network for a couple of days to see if the error appears. If it doesn't, then it's something from the network which is causing the problem. Perform the same procedure of collecting the secondary code and contact Dell.
If it still gives 900 RIP error when disconnecting, then it's one of the hardware part which is causing the problem. It might be an option such as a drawer, or a memory unit, or just a main board. try disconnecting one by one the options and see if the problem goes away. Whenever it comes back, collect the secondary codes.
I hope it makes sense.

I ended up using my Dell onsite service and they came in and replaced the whole motherboard.

I called the Dell printer tech support and the person said it was probably software problem and wanted to delete the computer hard-drive (reformat?). We ended up not doing that.. coz the computer was in use
So.. problem not solved yet.

We have the same issue - from several computers when users try to print documents of any kind, pdf, excel, word the error will come up and then we restart the printer and it will work for a bit and then we get the errro again.

I should mention that nothing changes if the network cable is disconnected, or with reboots.

I doubt anyone is still monitoring this thread, but the secondary message I am getting is as follows:
PhyADDR line 1740: Bad 0: Bad PHY! (ffffffff)
