942 Button Monitor Error

I purchased a Dell Dimension 4700 computer and a Dell 942 printer in late December, 2004.  Since I hooked up the new printer, I receive an error message everytime I start the computer.  ( Dell Dell 942 Button Monitor has encountered a problem and needs to close).  I ran the Advanced System Information Error Log and received about 25 error messages, all of the same 2 errors.  They are as follows: 1- Fault bucket 1447438522- Faulting application dlbubmen.exe, version 1.0.10.0, faulting module hid.dll, version 5.1.2600.2180, fault address 0x00001abc.  I have worked with Dell Email Support extensively.  So far I have reloaded printer drivers from CD and also downloaded updated drivers from the Dell website, cleared the NVRAM, performed a Dell PC RESTORE, Disabled Error Reporting, which I turned back on, ran SFC /scannow and now they want me to uncheck "Button Monitor" under the Startup tab and run in "Diagnostic Mode" forever.  Dell doesn't seem to want to fix the problem, just mask it.  Could it be a software problem?  I have also talked to a Dell Email Support Supervisor ( Aubrey) with no luck whatsoever.  Who do I contact at Dell to resolve the problem?  I have quite a few hours invested in trying to fix my "new computer".  I am now at the point of sending the entire system back for a refund and shopping elsewhere.  Does anybody have any suggestions?

Ken,

I am encountering the exact same problem, annoying 942 error everytime I start my computer. I Just set up my Dimension 8400 two weeks ago but did not contact dell yet about the error. Any suggestions.

I have had this same problem with my 4700C.  I spent many hours on the phone and followed all the same steps.  They have sent me 1 new PC and 2 new printers without any resolution.  Did any of you find a fix?

I ALSO HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY DELL 942 PRINTER.
I WOULD GET THAT SAME ERROR EVERY TIME I TURNED ON MY PC.
I WAS PLAYING E-MAIL TAG WITH DELL TRYING TO FIX MY PROBLEM.
AFTER A MONTH OF BACK AND FORTH WITH E-MAILING, MY LAST E-MAIL THAT I SENT
TO DELL WAS: I DID ALL WHAT YOU TOLD ME TO DO AND NOTHING CHANGED.
I STILL GET THE ERRORS. THERE MUST BE A DEFECT IN THE PRINTER.
WHEN I SENT THAT E-MAIL THEY E-MAILED ME BACK AND SAID THE ARE SENDING ME A NEW ONE.
I SHOULD BE GETTING MY REPLACEMENT PRINTER IN A COUPLE OF DAYS.

I finally returned my 942 Dell Printer back to Dell.  Just in case anybody is going to do the same, you must return it within 21 days of the shipping date, to receive a refund.   My new HP Printer works like a charm.

Seems a USB mouse may be the problem, Try a different mouse, Logitech seems to do OK
