942 printer problems

This has been an ongoing problem and all of the suggestions I have received unfortunately have not solved my problem. I will try to explain better this time--I get a white streak across the page not on top of the print but separating it--the letters are separated by a space with about half above and half below-- I have cleaned the nozzles and cleaned the cartridges but this is not the problem--this situation happens on the same line in each document when printing more than one sheet--I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer twice but it makes no difference. I am running XP on a older dimension 4300--any help would be appreciated  thanks Jerry

How does the Test page print?  Go to the Control Panel/Printers.  RIGHT click on your 942 then LEFT click on Properties.  Click the button to print a test page.

If it prints with spaces too then probably the cartridges are defective.  If it prints OK then sort of points back to the program you are printing from.

Thanks for the quick reply and suggestion--I printed the test page and it also has the spaces--I will try new cartridge--these cartridges are new --does dell guarantee them in anyway?  thanks Jerry

Yes, if they are new Dell cartridges you can call them for warranty replacements.  Been a (relatively) lot of bad cartridge problems posted here lately.

Well I am still stumped--I replaced my black cartridge and it still does the same thing--still get the separated lines of print--both from Word and test page---I found that on the right side of the area where the cartridges are there is a white roller with gear cut on one edge--that roller looked dirty and when I checked it wiped off-- there is a small black wiry looking thing in front of the roller and that is completely soaked in something black and gooey--like thick ink?? I would love to attach a picture that I took of it but cant figure out how to do it--I know I am rambling but I sure would like to get my printer working again  Thanks Jerry
