A920 Ink Cartridge

when i first got my A920 printer i realized that the only place i would be able to find this ink was nowhere , but dell. i looked at my old printers ink cartridge and looked at the "dell" ink cartridge and realized it was the Lexmark 16 ink cartridge. i still havent performed the test because i am waiting for my notebook to arrive so i can see if this is really the same ink cartridge. if it is you will no longer have to order from dell and you can buy it at your local electronics or computer store. i will post another bulletin concerning this ink cartridge from dell

i was looking at the ink cartridges again and found the lids of the identical cartirdges were both different. so you can try to remove the lids but its best you just buy frmo dell. its an ok price, not considering s/h.

I was very disapointed to find there's only one source for these printer cartridges - Dell.

The printer manufacturer specifically re-keyed the cartridge so only Dell's cartridges will fit.  Due to rebates my printer was basically free, but I would not have gotten it if I knew about this before.

(several unsubstantiated wisecracks follow...)

  • Maybe Dell's digital camera's won't accept standard memory cards too?
  • Maybe Dell's laser printers can only take Dell cartridges?
  • Maybe normal CD-RW's and DVD+R's & +RW's don't work either?
  • How about specialized expansion cards in their PC's

(...end of wisecracks)

That's reverse progress to me.  My apologies for the rant.

DiscipleOfChrist is wrong. Dell does not make the printer Lexmark makes the printer and nothing is changed in the pin configuration. It takes the Lexmark 16 for the black and Lexmark 26 for the color. I have printed hundreds of pages on the A920 using these cartridges. You can get either remanufactured cartridges for less than $17.00 each if you shop around.

It's excellent to see that I may have been mistaken - that's good, and I hope that I was.

Yes, I knew Lexmark manufactured the printer and did not say that Dell made it, but some "manufacturer" - I was trying keep Lexmark's name out of it.  When I was looking for an alternative, and possibly cheaper, source of ink cartridges, I found this article; http://www.4inkjet.com/dea9prsu1.html

I cannot afford to throw away $35+ on two, possibly, incompatible cartridges and damage my printer too.  That's when the audacity of having the printer changed, however slightly, so cartridges can only purchased from one source hit me as just plain wrong, and not business friendly.

So, you've mentioned that the Lexmark 16 & 26 catridges work fine with this Dell printer - GREAT!  Now I can resume my price search.  Thanks.

Thank you both for letting everyone know we can purchase the Lexmark ink in a store.
