A940 - Sharing on Peer Network - XP to 2K - Cannot get software to find networked printer

Objective:  both print and scan functionality.  Upgraded daughter's PC to Win2K (corrupting the upgrade and having to lose all her software settings along the way ...she was not pleased).  Ran Dell A940 software disc.  Printer drivers installed but did not find printer.  Set networked printer as default, drivers loaded all prints well...

However, cannot get software to continue to install.  Fails to find networked printer in install program.  Cannot provide scanning.  I am considering plugging A940 direct to Dau PC for purpose of installing software but do not know if it will work once I return A940 to original location on network.

Any thoughts or solutions?  Cannot/Will not upgrade PC to XP.  Not an option.

Although you can share the A940 as a printer over a network, only the PC that the A940 is directly connected to can use the scanning function.

A pity to be sure.  It's probably a device limitation but it is still a pity.

Thunderbunny,

I had another thought on this matter.  If the computers you want to share the A940 are close enough to each other and/or the A940, you can purchase a USB port switch.  This type of switch will allow 2 or more computers to share a USB device.

This may be a superior solution!  Currently only about 7 feet seperate the PCs.  We are using a WiFi peer network to share internet (and the Printer...).  Thanks!
