AIO 962 color scan problem

I get a purple and blue light screening in the background of any scanned images, black and white or color.  I can copy black and white images from the printer control panel using the black copy button.   If I use the color button to make a color copy, I get the same screening in the background.  Printed a test page fine but when I tried to preview the same sheet with the scanner, got the screening in the background again.  Tried cleaning the scanner glass, unplugged and plugged the printer back in, and even reloaded the driver software.  Printer is JUST over one year old so out of warranty.  Called Dell and tech said out of warranty........said they don't work on problems anyway and would require me buying a new printer.  I had an HP printer for years with no prob, can't believe this one is acting up already.  Anyone have similar prob and any solution ideas????  Thanks
