AIO 966 installation problem, All-In-One Center generates memory write error on first use

The AIO 966 software is maddening, but I haven't given up yet.  I could not successfully install the software from the CD, the All-In-One Center generates a repeatable error "dlcqaiox.exe unable to locate a component, dlcqafcn.dll" before anything visible happens on the screen.

So I downloaded what I assume is a later version from the Dell web site and get further, but still not total success.  The driver installs and I am able to print over the USB connection.  However, when I run the All-In-One Center I get further than before, now seeing the message that it is running for the first time and it runs for a minute or two scanning my disk for programs, then it generates (every time) the following error message:

"All-In-One Center Startup - dlcqaiox.exe - Application Error"
"The instruction at 0x7c910f83 referenced memory at 0x011481e2.  The memory could not be written.  Click OK to terminate, Cancel to debug."   Clicking Cancel does nothing, seems to only terminate the program, same as clicking OK.

In effect, I can't run the All-In-One Center.  What can be wrong?  Has anyone else figured out a way to progress?  I want to get to the wireless setup, but that seems like a can of worms from what I read on this forum.

I am running Windows XP SP2 on an IBM laptop T41P with 1 GB of RAM and plenty of disk space.  Running Norton SystemWorks 2007 (AntiVirus).  I've been using PCs for over 20 years and I have lots of experience, and I can say that this software is among the most frustrating I've used.  It appears to be a new product with poor QA and little user experience.

Sorry to hear about your problems!  Looks like the 966 is a repeat of the 964 troubles we all experianced a year ago!  Best of luck....

Uninstall the printer driver from add/remove programs then reboot your PC

Install the printer driver using the cd that came with it, if you still encounter the same problem do the folowing

Open a command prompt window (click start, then run type cmd on the box and hit OK)  and expand the the follwing files from the Printer CD* (usually located in x:\Apps\AIOC, where x is the CD/DVDROM drive letter), dlcqafcn.dl_ and dlcqactl.dl_ to the printers installation directory

ex:
expand x:\Apps\AIOC\dlcqafcn.dl_ C:\progra~1\Dell AIO Printer 966\dlcqafcn.dll

expand x:\Apps\AIOC\dlcqactl.dl_ C:\progra~1\Dell AIO Printer 966\dlcqactl.dll

(where x: is the CD/DVDROM drive letter )

* if Printer CD is not available, and you are installing from a downloaded driver, expand the file from the directory where you extracted the driver files

Hope this helps, let me know if you need more.

Thanks!
