Add Printer Driver Failed. The specified Print Monitor is unknown

CPU:  Dimension 2400 Series, Intel Celeron Processor at 2.4 GHz.

512MB DDR SDRAM at 400MHz

Monitor: 17 inch (17 in viewable) E173FP Flat Panel Display

      Adapter Type

Video Card: Intel (R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GU Graphics Controller

Printer:  Dell Photo Printer 720

When I try to install my Dell Photo Printer 720, the Install Wizard gives me the message:  'Add Printer Driver Failed.  the specified Print Monitor is unknown.

I have Uninstalled the 720 printer and tried re-installing with the Dell Photo Printer 720 CD sent with the printer for times with the same results above.  I ran the E173FP Flat Panel Display Monitor CD but there is no information concerning my problem.

My Warranty expired on the Dell CPU and periferals, so I do not have an authorized account with Dell for free tech support.

Any help would be appreciated.

Disconnect your printer. Download and run this patch to completely remove the printer from your computer.

Restart your computer.

Download the proper drivers.

XP Drivers

Vista 32-bit Drivers

All other drivers

Install the proper drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect your printer(powered on)

Pudgy 1   - Thanks for your suggestions.  Unfortunately, they didn't work.  I re-ran the Dell Tech Support 'Search' and came up with a whole lot of previously dated threads on the subject 'Unspecified Print Monitor' and a fellow who had the same trouble, only who was using a laptop, had  step-by-step instructions that fixed the problem.  Would you believe the problem solution was in 'My Computer' ?

1.  Right click on 'My Computer'

2.  Open 'Manage'

3.  Open 'Services & Applications'

4.  Open 'Services'

5.  Change the LEXbce server to 'Automatic'  (make sure there is a checkmark in that white box)

Bingo!!   Restarted and the Print Wizard took over and loaded.  The only thing I don't have is the automatic printer shut-down that I originally had when shutting down my system, but what the hey, that is just a press of the on button to off. :smileyvery-happy:

Wow, I'm glad you got that straightened out. Thanks for posting back.

Please remember to check your post as the solution, in case someone else has this problem and then they can see what you did to correct it.
