Brother printer installation

I have a Dell DIMENSION 9150 desktop PC.
I bought a Brother MFC-215C printer about 3 weeks ago. When I first installed it my system
(W-XP) seemed to be running slow. I decided to visit the Brother website to
look for a new driver etc. I couldn't find the most recent driver at first,
but I did find the latest firmware, which I dowloaded and ran.
A few days later I found the latest driver on the Brother website and
downloaded it. I was directed to download an unistall program and run it to
uninstall the old driver first. This I did -all OK. Then I tried to install
the new driver. When it reached the end of the install it informed me that I
had chosen the wrong model at the start of the installation and I needed to
repeat the installation and choose the correct one. The driver is only for my
model of printer so I can't do that.
Now, even if I try to install the original driver from the disk I have the
same error at the end of the install. I have tried everything to reinstall
this printer and nothing works. I even had the engineer from Brother on the
phone for one and a half hours, and even he ran out of ideas.
I have successfully installed the printer on another computer running the same operating system so the problem is obviously not with the machine.
I have been struggling with this for five days now, and nothing works!
Please help!

Did you every solve this issue? I'm have the exact same issue with a MFC-240C model with a Dell Inspiron Laptop. Brother says its Dell and Dell says its Brother. Thanks.

** Wanted to add we have Windows XP Home.

Got more information after the 4th call to Brother support. When you plug in the printer it is suppose to show USB Composite Device, USB Printing Support and USB Mass Storage under Universal Serial Bus Controllers. Which they do not. Now I am on the warpath to find where and how I can update the drivers and or system board for the Dell.

***Update for everyone***

Called Dell and we completely updated the motherboard drivers. Tried the Brother again with the exact same results. Dell advised I call back Brother and try another route. E-mail Brother and was told to do the EXACT same process we had done four times before. When I replied they told me to call Brother support so they could try more advanced troubleshooting.

Boxed up the printer and took it back to the store. Going to get another Printer and see what it does.

Purchases an HP and tried to setup the printer this morning. Half way through the installation it gave me a USB.inf error and exited setup. So its safe to say the configuration on the DELL is causing my problem. Going to research this model and printer problems and see what I find.

Okay Solved this problem! It looks like the USB.inf file was missing from C:\windows\INF folder. It was on my computer but in C:\I386. For some reason it was missing and so it would not install the correct USB functions needed for the printer! This is why the Brother did not work either. Hopefully this will help someone else! Here is a link that HP.
