Computer cannot communicate with printer
Need help in computer to printer communication. It has worked in the past but now does not.
Dell AIO printer A920
Inspiron E1505
Windows XP IE2008
The Inspiron laptop has a wireless connection to my desktop, they are communicating just fine. When I connect the laptop to the desktop with USB cable printing is successful. Contol panel shows the printer. But sending a print job from Inspiron to printer gives me the error message computer cannot communicate with the printer.
Thanks.

You might need to reinstall the printer on the laptop to connect wirelessly. When you connect via usb cable, you are connecting directly. You need to first share the printer by setting that up on the desktop by selecting File and Printer sharing. Then you install a 'new' printer on the laptop and select the printer connected to another computer on your network. If you can't see the printer when you browse for it, your network is not set up correctly or blocked by a firewall.
Recheck all the network settings--same Workgroup name, File and Printer Sharing, router settings, Firewalls, etc. Networking is one of the most difficult things to set up. Since wireless access to the printer worked before, think about what has changed recently.
