Connecting a Dell Multi-function 1600n

HI,
I'm trying to connect my printer so that it will send and receive faxes.  I don't have a dedicated phone line for my fax and can't get the fax function to work.

My set up:
1 cable from the wall outlet to a DSL modem
1 cable from the DSL modem to the FAX socket on the back of the Dell 1600n
1 cable from the PHONE socket of the Dell 1600n to my phone

I also have an ethernet cable from a wireless router to the ethernet socket in the printer.

I can print and use the phone.  I can't send or receive faxes.

Any ideas?
Many thanks.

You need to install a splitter on the phone line before it goes to the DSL modem or the 1600n. The fax usually requires a line filter and the DSL modem will not work if there is a line filter.

Thanks SkariMari,

Just confirm, I need to place a splitter so it looks like this:

[Wall Socket] > [Splitter] > [DSL Filter] > [Dell 1600 printer]

                                         > [DSL Modem]

right?

Cheers.
