Mine usually hangs there for a few seconds and then goes away.
Is the print job still there? Go to printer and faxes and double click on it. If the print job is still there, right click on it and delete it.
The try this. This cures most issues with the AIO's.
How are you connected to the printer? wired of wireless?
If wired, disconnect your printer. Go to start/programs/Dell printers and un-install your printer.
Restart your computer.
Now go to drivers and downloads/select product/printers/select your printer.
Install your printer. You'll be prompted when to connect it.
If wireless, fix your network first.
Update the firmware in your wireless router. Manufacturer's website, make & Model needed.
Broadcast SSID(You may want to change this to make it easier to connect)
Use WPA security
After router is done, now setup your wireless print server/printer.
If wireless printer server is used, Plug USB cable into computer and print server. Insert the print server disk. Choose Network, then choose print server and follow the instructions.
Now setup the printer.
Now go to drivers and downloads/select product/printers/select your printer.
Install your printer. Choose Network. Install the drivers.
OK, I did what you said (it's connected by wire, by the way) but still no luck. I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and still have the same issue. The only way to get the queue cleared is to go to control panel, admin tools, services, and restart the print spooler. And that only works SOMETIMES.
So then, I decide "hey, lemme go do that online chat deal and have them hook me up" and they ask for my "service tag" so I click "you find it for me" and that inserts the tag number into the box, but when I click "submit" it says it's an "invalid tag number". Seriously? It's the number YOU FREAKING FOUND FOR ME! sorry, I'm sorta aggravated about this. Even when I try to manually type in the number, it turns out that there's not enough room for all the digits. So I can't do the online chat option, so I'm back to here again because they never answer the phone when I call.
So here's my issue again...
When I print something, the print status bar goes to 99% and then freezes. When I click "cancel printing" it says OK, but still remains in my printing queue listed as "deleting" it stays that way indefinately until i mess with the "print spooler" stuff. This is far too complex for me to have my wife or kids have to deal with every time they print something and they're all looking at me to fix it so if someone can PLEASE let me know how to fix this, or let me know what my problem is with the tag number entering, I'd really appreciate it.
To fix the problem of print jobs hanging in the print spool (Specifically if your Dell AI0 finishes a print job, but then stops at 99% indefinitely), meaning that you look at the jobs to be printed and it says something to the effect of deleting-printed next to the job, but it never goes away, follow these steps.
Click Start->Control Panel go to System. Within System click on the Hardware tab and then the Device Manager button. Scroll down to Universal Serial Bus Controllers, and click the + next to it. It should expand. Find USB Printing Support, right click on it, and tell it to uninstall. It may pop up a couple of warnings, ignore them, and when it's done go ahead and let the machine restart.
When it boots back up it should go through XP's usual found new hardware process, automatically reinstall the USB printing support, and then re-setup your printer. You may need your printers driver CD handy.
Once all finished, then try to print a test page. It should work, however, if it doesn't I've heard that AOL can cause issues with the printing, so if you've got it installed (and if you have a Dell, HP, etc, you probably do) then completely uninstall it and see what happens.
I'm going to check this out on Monday. I don't have AOL on my computer, and I'm running a sony vaio right now. We got the Dell printer because we had a credit with them and just needed a new printer so we went through them. Anyway, I appreciate your help with this and hopefully on Monday I'll be able to fix it and come off as a hero to the family. Of course I'm going to take all the credit, but in here I'll let you know that I totally appreciate your patience and assistance.
If you're contacting Dell, ask them if there is a firmware update for your printer. I was looking for one but could never locate one. I think it's in the firmware.
I wish dell would put the firmware updates in downloads and drivers with each printers as well as manuals in pdf form.
