Dell AIO printer 942 installation with Windows 7

Recently I bought a new dell laptop that drives on windows 7. Because I still had my old printer and because this printer is still working perfect, I wanted to install it on my laptop but this won't work out. Is there someone who can help me?

Greetings,
Silke

DGBPAPASAN,

C:\Program Files\Dell 942\Drivers

***To install drivers, sometimes the file unzips and does nothing. You have to look for the setup.exe file, right click on it, then left click run as administrator***

Yes, I know that, but read my message and you will see that I asked for how to find the setup.exe file. If you can tell me this, it would help because I don't know how to find it. Thanks.

I've gotten as far as printing an alignment page, but when I try to print anything else, a window advises me to "enable Bidirectional Communication setting in the properties dialog." I've accessed the printer properties but there is nothing there that will enable anything. Can you tell me what to do? Thank you.

Thanks for you help. I never got the printer to do more than print an alignment page. I bought a new printer yesterday. Thanks again.

DGBPAPASAN,

Are you using Dell Series 5 ink cartridges?

Can you copy a document under the glass? Black and white and color?

Make and model of your computer and operating system? 32-bit or 64-bit? Operating system in English or another language?

What virus program and firewall are you using?

DGBPAPASAN,

First run Delete Print Jobs to remove stuck print job(s) from the queue, then restart your computer.

Make sure the printer is not usb cable connected.

Start, control panel, programs and features, your printer, uninstall.

Restart your computer. Make sure the printer was removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal

Download the Vista 32-bit drivers for Windows 7 32-bit or the Vista 64-bit drivers for Windows 7 64-bit. Install the Vista drivers in the Vista Compatibility mode You'll get a message, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on).

Links to the drivers can be found at...

Dell 942 Photo All-In-One Printer owners thread (W7)

Are you sure you're using Avant Virus protection or Avast?

Print one print job, the rest hang until you restart your computer issue...

The problem only started after Microsoft released Internet Explorer 11 in December. The easiest solution is to uninstall Internet Explorer 11 and the printing problem goes away.

Open Internet Explorer, click on Help, then click on About Internet Explorer. It should show the version there. If you have IE11, then go to control panel, Windows Update, Installed Updates, look for Internet Explorer 11. Click on Internet Explorer 11, uninstall.

Restart the computer, when prompted. Then see if your printer works.

The other option is to turn off the balloon tips for the printer.

Start, control panel, devices and printer, your printer, printing preferences, advanced, more options. Tell it to never show. The problem with this setting is you cannot tell if you're low on ink, printer jams, Etc.

Yes, the printer uses the 5 cartridges. I haven't tried the copy feature and cannot now because I have installed a new printer. But I would appreciate any information you can give me and I'll try again, for I really like the 942. I'm using a Del Inspiron 530, 32 bit. The virus program is Avant and firewall is Windows.

The scan is working. The copy works but does not print. I have noticed in the control panel that while it indicates the printer is installed, there are no megabytes on the right side of the panel as there are with all other programs that are loaded. I tried to uninstall Internet Explorer 11, but the computer will not allow me to uninstall it. If you can tell me how to do that, I will do it. All I get when asking it to print is a windows telling me that the computer cannot make a connection with the printer. Thanks

DGBPAPASAN,

You can copy a document under the glass. correct? It does print the document when you copy.

Apparently you didn't read my last message. There is no uninstall button after I click on Internet Explorer 11, only a button listing "details." And while the copy feature runs, it does not print. The scan and OCR are the only things that work. While the control panel list Dell 942 printer as being installed, it does not have any megabytes listed on the right side of the page.

DGBPAPASAN,

When I asked if it copies, you said it copies but won't print. I thought you meant it still copied, like a photocopier and printed the copy, just did not print from the computer. The printer must be able to copy like a photocopier or it will not install on the computer properly.

Since the printer does not work like a photocopier, then I would try...

Unplug the printer from the wall. Now remove the power brick from the back of the printer for 60 seconds. Plug everything back in. This will reset any error messages the printer has.

Power on the printer. Open the printer and take out the Dell Series 5 Black cartridge. make sure all the tape is off the cartridge and put the cartridge back in. Now do the same for the Dell Series 5 color cartridge.

Close the printer. It should print an alignment page. Any error messages?

Black cartridge = black side(left side)          color cartridge = color side(right side)

Photo cartridge = black side(left side)         color cartridge = color side(right side)

Dell Series 5 ink cartridges have a sensor in them that cannot be reset. Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges.

Dell Series 5 ink cartridges can be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's Website.

It is also possible to get a new ink cartridge with a bad sensor. Please take it to the place of purchase for a refund or a replacement one.
