ddres,

My guess is that these are NOT Dell Series 2 ink cartridges, since you said you purchased them at Office Max.

Dell Series 2 ink cartridges have a sensor in them that cannot be reset. Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges

Dell Series 2 ink cartridges can only be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's website.

Black cartridge = black(left side)          Color cartridge = Color side(right side)

Photo Cartridge = Black(left side)        Color cartridge = color side.

Let me know what happens.

Hi,

You are correct the new ink cartridges are Office Max brand for Dell printers.  The printer is recognizing that we have new cartridges in both and the ink level indicator correctly shows both color and black as full, so I do not think its a sensor problem, but I have no clue why when I print, it just prints using color.

Rick,

Thanks for your help on this one.  When you were talking about the sensors in the first response, a lightbulb went off that maybe we had a cartridge with bad sensors.  Just got back from Office Max, swapped it for another one, installed, and it works as expected.  Turns out we just had a bad product.

Sometimes it's easy to overlook the really obvious :).

Thanks again for your help!!

ddres,

You can try...

start, control panel, printers, your printer, printer preferences, advanced, more options and see if the complete-a-print boxes are unchecked but...

I still say it has to do with the third party brand cartridges.

ddres,

GREAT JOB! :emotion-21: Glad you got it working. Just remember if you get a low ink message, you might have see it sooner and there is no way to turn this off. I have tried refilled ink cartridges on my other printer but didn't like the print quality. I now mostly use my printer for homework and a few coupons.

Some third party cartridge will work and some don't, but they really don't work with a bad sensor.

Take care,

Rick
