The default username for all Dell printers is "admin" The default password for all Dell printers is "admin", or, "password", or (leave blank).
If that doesn't work, restore the factory settings: 1. Power OFF the printer and DISCONNECT any data cables. 2. Open the side cover. (toner door) 3. While pressing the Continue and Cancel buttons at the same time, turn on the printer. 4. CONTINUE to PRESS and HOLD the Continue and Cancel buttons until ALL the indicators are turned on, then release the two buttons. 5. After the Continue, Error, and Ready/Data indicators go out, close the side cover.
The printer will: * Initialize the non-volatile memory (NVM). * Restart * Prints the Printer Settings and Device Settings pages.
Sounds to me like the tech support folks didn't know what they were talking about with the purchase issue you had.
Thanks will try that over the weekend - not only did the tech support folks not understand neither did the cust service guy - he wanted me to go to staples and ask for their order # they purchased the printer how nuts is that ? Apparently they didn't realize Staples is a retail store even tho I tried to explain that - believe me I will NEVER buy another Dell product.
they don't ask for order # but do ask for service tag # and that is the problem it doesn't recognize the service tag # as being valid - that's what started my saga from last nite when they told me they couldn't just register the tag # over the phone without an order # - soooooooo off to Staples I will go and get their service contract for 29.95
I do know this much I will never again buy a dell product - thanks so much for all your help in this
Thanks for all your help and suggestions. I was finally able to reset today and now it no longer asks for a user name and password to change settings. Picked up the Staples serivice contract today - just in case - I figure its better thatn ever having to deal with dell direct if a problem crops up.
I tried to email you with that info but gthe email link didn't work just a blank screen came up so can you let me know how to send you a private message

I was doing some cruising around the Dell web-site and "stumbled" across a page where you can register your product on-line.
Click Here, then click the Staples link (3rd from the bottom). Note that you're not asked for an order number during registration.
