Dell E525w Scanner Drivers

I have had a E525w printer for just over a week now. Everything works just fine apart from two things that now have me stumped.

1. I installed the drivers using the disk that came with the printer. The following day I went to use the scanner but it says no scanner installed. So I re-installed the disk that came with it and still no scanner installed.

I then went to Dell download site for this printer and downloaded the latest drivers from the site, I then uninstalled the old drivers and installed the new drivers. Success, I now have a scanner installed.

However the next time I turn on my printer to scan it says no scanner installed, so I re-install it all over again and i see the scanner, that is until I switch off the printer because when I switch it back on it says no scanner installed.

So I went back to the download site and downloaded drivers for the scanner only, installed the drivers, scanner shows but again the next time I switch it on it says scanner not installed.

So what on earth is going on? It looks to me as if the scanner driver is disappearing in between installing them and turning my printer back on say the following day.

2. My second question is when I attach a USB memory stick it says "USB Host Error 016-930 system unsupported device". So what does that mean and what devices does it support.

Please advise.

For the scanner issue, you may want to look at your WSD settings.  Here is a suggested document that may help you.  kb.dell.com/.../index

The 016-930 USS Host error may be due to a compatibility issue.  Check your USB memory stick and see if they meet the following:

==> Memory Size: 32 GB or smaller

==> File format: Fat 16 or Fat 32

==> Partition: Single partition

Hi Dell-JustPrint and thank you for the reply, sorry it's taken me a while to get back to you. I have had a look at everything and I see from the Device manager that the scanner drivers are installed and it's showing the the scanner icon in the Dell Hubs right window panel but it's still telling me "No Scanner Installed.

I clicked on the link you supplied above but unfortunately it seems to be a dead link as it came back as "Failure To Connect To Web Server"

Okay checking the WSD settings, any chance you could explain how I would go about doing that please. I'm no expert but at the same time I am fairly savvy fins my way around and getting things fixed if it's explained to me.

Many thanks for your help.

Blu.

Go into network and sharing center. Select Advanced sharing settings and turn network discovery to ON

Here is the correct Dell article: <ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>

One other note: WSD device status is provided by Windows Operating System.  If the WinOS doesn't detect the WSD device, then the Dell Printer Hub (DPH) will indicate the no scanner found message.   You can try the DPH refresh button on the upper right (2 circular arrows icon --> When you mouse over and the icon turns blue, then the refreshing option is available).

I still have this exact same issue.  Refresh does not work.  I've gone to support for the printer on the Dell site and, after doing everything it says, scanner is still not showing up.  I've also installed the windows scan and it does not even find the scanner.

Here is the Dell KB article link that shows how to check and set the WSD setting:

If "Windows fax and scan" app does not recognize the E525w scan driver, there may be an incomplete scan driver installation or a corruption issue.  You should consider taking the following steps:

1) Go to Windows Control Panel --> Program and Features

2) Uninstall

     a) Dell Color MFP E525w

     b) Dell Printer Hub

3) Download the latest web package from Dell.com

www.dell.com/.../DriversDetails

4) Run the installation again using the latest web package

At Dell support downloads there is a firmware update (5 Feb 2018) for the E525w that fixed the problem.

Of course when chatting with dell they said they would have to charge me to run diagnostics to fix this issue as I'm out of warranty.  I declined, thank you.

Hi Copper and thanks for the reply. Do you have a link to that "firmware update (5 Feb 2018)" because I'm damned if I can see it.

Regards

Well I finally fixed this after trying everything folks advised to do and unfortunately nothing worked. I found that if I un-install the drivers and then reinstall them the scanner shows in the HUB.

The problem was that when the HUB downloaded new updates and installed them that's when it goes belly up. So I turned off download updates and it's been fine ever since.

Customers really shouldn't have to go through all this nonsense to get things to work.

I fixed it as well.  The key is to remove all the printers *AND* remove Dell Printer Hub.  Once I did that, I reinstalled the package and the scanner appeared just fine.

This has happened to me more times than I can count.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Dell software suite several times and that is not the answer.  It is cumbersome and we shouldn't have to do that every time the scanner isn't recognized.  What I have found to work more times than not is to reset the wireless on the E525W and then reboot my computer.  They both have to be on the same router (we have several routers and repeaters in our house).  About 75% of the time, my computer will recognize the scanner after doing this.  Another thing that has worked several times is just cycling the power button on the E525W.

Don't waste your time uninstalling and reinstalling the Dell Printer/Document Hubs.  It's completely unnecessary.
