Error Message E0000100 when installing 1110 driver for Windows 7

I just installed Windows 7 and a Dell 1110 printer on an older desktop.  The printer ran for a week then stopped. 

When trying to install the Windows 7 driver from Dell, I get to the "Dell 1110 Driver Installing..." progress bar, then the error message

"Operation could not be completed.  Error Code 0XE0000100".

This happens every time, including when running Setup.exe in Vista compatibility mode. 

What can I do?  The printer works fine under XP but not under Windows 7.
