bredenbm,

Let's try re-installing the printer using the following directions below. This will install the Dell All-In-One Center.

First make sure your computer has all the Windows updates. I have the custom ones too, especially the .net framework(Needed to run many applications). Also make sure to have the latest Java. Since you didn't mention how the printer's connected, here the basic instructions for this printer.

Disconnect your printer. Download and run this patch to completely remove the printer from your computer. When the patch is finished, it will prompt you to restart your computer. It seems to be a lenghty process so please be patient.

Restart your computer.

Download the proper drivers.

XP Drivers

Vista 32-bit Drivers

Vista 64-bit Drivers.

All other drivers

Install the proper drivers.(ONLY install the drivers you need) You'll be prompted when to connect your printer(powered on)

As for scanning to scanning, if you have the disk that came with the printer, then insert the Printer disk and stop it from running. Go to My Computer and double click on it. Look for the drive with the Dell disk in it. Right click on it, left click explore. Look for the OCR Folder. In the OCR Folder, there is an Abbyy Folder. right click on setup.exe, that's in the Abbyy Folder and left click run as administrator. This will install the OCR program.

Scanning

Scanning using USB connection, open the Dell All-In-One Center, click on scanning and copying and scan from there.

Scanning wirelessly, use the scan buttons on the printer.

I belive your AIO printer is manufactured by Lexmark and their printer drivers are notorious for bugs. I suggest you look for a newer software driver under support at dell.com and try it. Uninstall the current driver and reboot BEFORe you install the new driver. Furthermore, it is also widely known the Vista drivers in general (if available) have problems when compared to Xp drivers, which is why NONE of my desktop computers or notebooks are running Vista (by my choice after numerous problems, some like yours). If you stick with Vista, make sure you have a good supply of headache meds becausse you might need them.

Rick,

I have tried your solution several times with no luck.  The 924 prints fine but I can't scan, which I really need to do.  Do you have any additional suggestions?

AIO 924, Vista 32-bit

jdurbin22,

Do you have the Dell All-In-One Center?

When you went to install the Vista 32-bit drivers...

***To install drivers, sometimes the file unzips and does nothing. You have to look for the setup.exe file, right click on it, then left click run as administrator***

I'm having this same problem. I have a Dell 922 All In One, worked fine on my old computer. Got a new computer with Vista 64 and now will only print, no scanner.

I did everything you suggested. Disconnected my printer, used that patch you recommended to uninstall everything. Restarted. Downloaded the new 64 bit drivers, Everything went through fine, printed test page.  Then it said "Preparing All-In-One for first use. Searching for applications. Please wait." That's when I get the error message "AIOC exe has stopped working"

Printer works fine, but when I press the "Scan" button I I get the whole thing over again: "Preparing All-In-One for first use. Searching for applications. Please wait." That's when I get the error message "AIOC exe has stopped working". Pressed it about 10,000 times. Same thing every single time.

I repeated the whole process from uninstall to "scan" probably about a dozen times and still never works.

What now? Thanks for any help.

I am not sure if anyone is still following this thread. I am having trouble with the Dell All-in-one software working. It doesn't. I removed the old printer software as above and when I downloaded the new driver from Dell it only shows up in Japanese. I checked the set-up file and it definitely specifies Japanese as the language. When I tried to change the language then the installer would no longer work.

Stuck again.

Dan Raabe,

Make and model of your computer and opertaing system. 32-bit or 64-bit? Language of your operating system.

What virus program and firewall are you using?

Do you have the printer disk?

My Dell Photo 926 All in One Center on Windows 7 continually failed and said the AIOC.exe WAS not working. I had to continually reinstall the updated drivers to get to work for a while. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling of the printer. By accident I FOUND THE SOLUTION – in looking over my program files, I noticed that there was a Dell 946?? printer listed and the drivers were placed under that printer. I copied the drivers from that printer which were for the 926 to the listing for the 926 printer. I checked it out and it worked properly. I went back to look at the program files and the other printer listing DISAPPEARED! That why I am uncertain of the # which was listed. WHY and HOW it worked – I have NO idea or even how that happened in the 1st place. But it worked and I am thankful.
