Garbage Text 1710

I have 2 1710 printers. both are connected to USB. Randomly during printing it will print out a page with just the top line printed on it and it is just random characters. I am using a rather short USB calbe on both of the printers. It is happening from many applications including IE and even something as simple as the windows test page.

 

I have completely uninstalled the driver and removed it from the registry and attempted to reinstall but we get the same problem.

 

I am running Win2k on both systems.

 

Any ideas?
