Please check if you get any error message on printer screen.
You may try to scan a standalone copy from printer control panel and see if the issue persists. If the issue persists, you may perform a printer reset.

Resetting to Factory Settings:
From the printer control panel, press Settings button.
Press the arrow buttons to scroll to Default option, and then press OK.
Press the arrow buttons to scroll to Set Defaults option, and then press OK.
Press the arrow buttons to scroll to Use Factory option, and then press OK.
When prompted to set the Initial Settings of your printer, make your selections using the printer control panel buttons.
Once it is reset, Initial Setup Complete message appears on the display.
At times, the
Eco-Mode might get enabled by default after the factory reset. Follow the below mentioned steps to change the
Eco-Mode settings:
From the printer control panel, press Settings button.
Press the arrow buttons to scroll to Device Setup option, and then press OK.
Press the arrow buttons to scroll to Eco-Mode.

If you are able to scan to computer from printer, you may try to disable the firewall of computer and see if it makes any difference. You may also check the printer manual from link: http://bit.ly/Y8aCzp It has some troubleshooting steps that might help.
thanks Dell Chinmay S . I did manage to get an RTF scan by the printer Control Panel. I then found I couldn't print but there was no error message. I attempted to do the printer reset as per your instructions but it became apparent that there was no Wi-Fi connectivity for some reason. I then went to the printer Control Panel to reset Wi-Fi but I'm a bit stuck because I'm not sure I have the right Dell installation cable, and even with another one, I can't work out where the non-USB end of the cable is supposed to go on the printer. The diagram supplied on the wireless setup utility screen bears no resemblance to my printer.
the Wi-Fi symbol on the printer is definitely Orange.
I followed all your instructions – got as far as "Click on Network and then right click on your wireless adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power."
Couldn't see anything called "Wireless adapter". I did however discover that somehow my private home network had been redesignated a public network, so I changed that.
Go to the USB Controller section and click the + sign.
Go to each USB Root Hub and right click on it, left click properties, left click power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.
Restart your computer.
--------------------------------------
Start, control panel, device manager. Click on Network and then right click on your wireless adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.
Your printer is not communicating with your wireless router.
Power off your ISP modem/router and your wireless router(if any) for 30 seconds. Then power on the ISP modem/router. Wait 15 seconds, then power on the wireless router(if any)
Restart the computer and try to connect.
Unplug the printer from the wall for 30 seconds, then plug it back in. What color is the WiFi Light, orange or green?
With the computer online, insert the Dell V715w Printer disk, choose new installation, network and follow the instructions. It should ask for your network name and password, then follow the instructions. When you are prompted to disconnect the printer, the WiFi light should be green.
Remember virus programs and firewalls will block communications.
Hi Rick, thanks, but this is a bit out of my league, and my name isn't Mark. :-) I am mystified – it's been working fine for about two years even though I've changed ISP. I leave the country for two weeks and then I come back and this happens, disconnecting the printer from the Wi-Fi for no discernible reason. Your colleague suggested uninstalling the printer driver software and then reinstalling it. I might be able to manage that, I suppose.many thanks, Mickie's dog
Are you able to detect the wireless networks when you try to connect the printer on wireless network?
Connect your printer with a USB cable and check if you are able to print or scan.
Please let me know if the light on the printer is solid or blinking orange.
If the Wi-Fi indicator light is solid orange, it indicates that the printer may be unable to join the network because of interference.
If the Wi-Fi indicator light is blinking orange, it indicates that the printer has been set up for wireless networking but cannot connect to the network for which it has been configured.
Make sure the access point is on: Check the access point and, if necessary, turn it on. Another step, you may try is to move the computer or printer closer to the wireless access point (wireless router) and see if it works.
If the issue persists, as a last resort you may try to uninstall the printer driver from control panel and then re-install the printer driver to configure printer again.
If you have the printer CD, you may insert the printer CD in computer. Click on 'autorun' and then follow the prompts on screen and configure the printer over he wireless network and see if it works.
If you do not have the printer CD, you may download and install the printer driver from link: http://dell.to/Tx4ht8
Select the operating system and download the appropriate driver. For more information on this, you may also refer to the printer manual given in previous post.
@ RockSt☆r-Rick K : Thank you for assisting the customer.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling. I still have the original disk. The wifi protected setup PIN doesn't work. I don't actually have to hand a cable with USB on both ends to try and connect manually. as the next step on the install suggests. Maybe I can borrow one tomorrow. this is sSSSO FFFRustrating!

Mickiesdog,
I have to get some rest and work a long night, so DELL-Chinmay S will help you get the printer connected to your network.
How to login to your wireless router use these Recommended Wireless Router Settings I use channel 11. I would make a new SSID to make connecting easier.
Run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print jobs from the queue.
Make sure the pritner is not usb cable connected.
Start, control panel, programs and features, Dell V715w Printer, uninstall.
Restart your computer. Make sure the printer was removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal
With the computer online, insert the Dell V715w Printer disk, choose new installation, network and follow the instructions. It should ask for your network name and password, then follow the instructions. When you are prompted to disconnect the printer, the WiFi light should be green.
Remember virus programs and firewalls will block communications.
Make sure to Update list of applications to send scans to
Any questions, DELL-Chinmay S will help you as I probably won't be back online until late tomorrow evening.

Mark,
Getting ready to leave for work.
I use WPA-PSK(TKIP) Security(Persoanl) in my wireless router
Authentication : WPA2-Personal
Cipher : CCMP
I use channel 11
Channel : 1
Try changing to WPA-PSK(TKIP) Security(Personal)
Some of the adapters do not like WPA-AES. Some of my mobile devices cannot connect using WPA-AES. Your recieve and transmit rate will drop to 54Mbbps.
Here is my network interface, so you can compare. I do have a Dell V715w Printer on my network.
There is 1 interface on the system:
Name : Wireless Network Connection
Description : Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6200 AGN
GUID : 0d46cd1f-3f3a-4f10-877e-daad5000708c
Physical address : 58:94:6b:97:73:08
State : connected
SSID : Virus_Farm2
BSSID : 00:1d:7e:f8:d1:44
Network type : Infrastructure
Radio type : 802.11g
Authentication : WPA-Personal
Cipher : TKIP
Connection mode : Profile
Channel : 11
Receive rate (Mbps) : 54
Transmit rate (Mbps) : 54
Signal : 99%
Profile : Virus_Farm2
Hosted network status : Not started

hi, I thought I let you know I had borrowed the right kind of cable, tried installation again and this time it worked!
