How to make fax recognize external modem
I have a Dell 926 combination printer/scanner/fax. I am hooked to an external DSL modem. The computer connects to the internet fine and e mail works well also. The modem address was never entered when I changed from dial up. This service was done by provider which is a phone company. I can't seem to make them understand that all I need from them is necessary settings for the fax. The fax doesn't work because the dial up is not connected to a phone line and the DSL has never been installed to the fax. Thanks

When using DSL, everything must have a DSL Filter, phone, answering machine, faxes, etc. Everything except the DSL modem/router itself.
You may share a DSL Filter.
wall > dsl filter > splitter > multiple devices.
Your printer should have a place to plug it into the DSL filter or splitter.

The 926 manual says
Faxing ProblemsUsing the fax function requires a phone connection to the fax modem in your computer.
When using DSL broadband service, make sure you have a DSL filter installed on your phone cord. Contact your Internet Service Provider for more information.
Make sure your computer is not connected to the Internet by dial-up modem when trying to fax.
